Agri-food & Farming Awards in Hong Kong

Hong Kong produces a small fraction of its food, and the businesses that produce it are correspondingly inventive: organic and conventional farms in the New Territories under the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department's schemes, hydroponic and vertical farms in Kwun Tong and Tuen Mun industrial buildings, rooftop farms on office towers, marine fish farms in the eastern waters and fresh-water fish ponds in the north-west, an Agricultural Park being built to modernise the sector, and agritech companies in lighting, nutrients, sensing and aquaculture. Around them sits the trade that feeds the city — importers, wholesalers, wet-market suppliers and food-service distributors — and a growing plant-based and food-technology scene.

The Asia Best of Best Awards' 75 agriculture and farming categories cover all of it at Asia level. Leaders are recognised through the World CEO, Golden Entrepreneur and Golden Women programmes.

What the jury will ask an agri-food business

What do you grow, raise, make or trade, and at what scale? Is it growing? Output, yield per square metre, revenue over a defined period, indexed if needed. Is it safe? Organic certification, food-safety and quality standards, AFCD accreditation. Is it efficient? Water, energy and waste data. What is new? Controlled-environment systems, aquaculture technology, new products, with dates. Traders should present range, service levels and supply resilience.
